Some Exact Conditional Tests of Independence For, R × C Cross-classification Tables

چکیده

Exact conditional tests of independence in cross-classification tables are formulated based on the x 2 statistic and statistics with stronger operational interpretations, such as some nominal and ordinal measures of association. Guidelines for the table dimensions and sample sizes for which the tests are economically implemented on a computer are given. Some selected sample sizes and marginal distributions are used in a numerical comparison between the significance levels of the approximate and exact conditional tests b~sed on the x ~ statistic.

A L Tests for Cross-classifications: Approximation of Attained Significance Levels

Several recent articles have outlined methodologies for exact conditional analyses of data which are summarized in an r × c matrix of counts. Depending upon the purposes of the experimenter, several types of null and alternative hypotheses are appropriate. Some of the procedures [Agresti & Wackerly, 1977; Freeman & Halton, 1951] test for independence between two variables, while others [Klotz &...

Choice of test for association in small sample unordered r x c tables.

Pearson's chi-squared, the likelihood-ratio, and Fisher-Freeman-Halton's test statistics are often used to test the association of unordered r x c tables. Asymptotical, exact conditional, or exact conditional with mid-p adjustment methods are commonly used to compute the p-value. We have compared test power and significance level for these test statistics and p-value calculations in small sampl...

Testing association with Fisher's Exact test.

WHAT IS FISHER’S EXACT TEST? Undoubtedly the most widely known test of association between two binary variables is the 2×2 Chi-square (χ) test. However, many readers will also have learned about Fisher’s Exact test at some point – most likely in a basic statistics course – that Fisher’s Exact test is the advised, or in fact the obligatory, alternative to the 2×2 χ test in the situation that ‘th...

Computing p-values in conditional independence models for a contingency table

We present a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for generating Markov chains using Markov bases for conditional independence models for a fourway contingency table. We then describe a Markov basis characterized by Markov properties associated with a given conditional independence model and show how to use the Markov basis to generate random tables of a Markov chain. The estimates of exact p...

Exact tests for two-way contingency tables with structural zeros

Fisher’s exact test, named for Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher, tests contingency tables for homogeneity of proportion. This paper discusses a generalization of Fisher’s exact test for the case where some of the table entries are constrained to be zero. The resulting test is useful for assessing cases where the null hypothesis of conditional multinomial distribution is suspected to be false. The test ...
